Greenlands Centre Wellington is growing in 2009.
The organization, a citizen group that advocates for healthy communities in the township, has been active for five year.
Greenlands has documented the natural and cultural heritage of the township, and the next work will provide guidelines and solutions with government agencies in shaping the township’s future.
The project has grown to where the group needs a home and with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation that happens to 2010.
A first step was to hire a project coordinator who established a resource centre in Fergus in January, and will coordinate activities, source and apply for further funding, and generally work with the board of directors of Greenlands.
Chris Hart has been hired as the project coordinator. He is an environmental planner and landscape architect who has worked with rural communities and their special needs for over 20 years. He was instrumental in the routing of the Grand Valley Trail through the township and obtaining the Heritage River Designation for the Grand River.
In February, Greenlands opened an office in Fergus at 140 St. Andrew Street, West.
