For the first time in seven years, this township will have a new mayor come Oct. 25.
Last week, Mayor John Green announced he will not be seeking re-election this fall, but instead will pursue the Ward 2 county council seat currently held by Carl Hall.
“If I quit cold turkey, I’ll probably go nuts,” Green joked about his decision.
He explained the county council position likely requires half the work, and said it is time for someone else “to get their feet wet” as mayor of Mapleton Township.
Green said he made the decision after many discussions with family members, whom he noted will benefit from the decision.
He concluded by saying that if he is successful at the county level he will consider the possibility of retiring completely in four years, after one term.
Hall recently informed the Advertiser he was not seeking re-election this fall.
