When county councillor and Mapleton Mayor John Green agreed to stand for election to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s county caucus, Warden Joanne Ross-Zuj said, “This is a delight.”
County council heartily endorsed Green for the position, and Ross-Zuj said councillors can lobby for his election over the summer.
Councillor Chris White called Green’s running “a fantastic opportunity.” White sits on AMO’s rural caucus and said the group Green would join focuses on county issues.
“I can’t think of anyone more qualified,” White said.
Green thanked council for its endorsement.
He said he had avoided for years joining outside groups because of the time factor, but he said his current circumstances allow him “more time to be available to make a contribution.”
The elections are at AMO’s annual general meeting scheduled for August.
