Two Green Legacy program tree giveaways last weekend were a resounding success.
Wellington North
It took volunteers only 45 minutes on Saturday to give away 5,000 soft and hardwood trees at the Green Legacy tree giveaway in Kenilworth.
Cathy Conrad, executive assistant to the CAO and mayor, said the event also brought in $450 in donations that will be split between the horticultural societies in Arthur and Mount Forest, she said.
The trees include spruce, maples, oaks and elm varieties.
“It was pretty phenomenal,” Mayor Ray Tout said. “In Wellington North we got rid of 5,000 trees in 45 minutes. Some municipalities still had trees.”
Guelph-Eramosa
Councillor John Scott reported that township residents scooped up 3,500 trees out of Rockwood and 1,500 out of Marden.
The Guelph-Eramosa Green Legacy tree giveaways also raised over 200 pounds of food for food banks in Rockwood and Guelph, in addition to many financial contributions to the food banks.
“It was a great success,” Scott said on Monday night.
