GRCA names two osprey chicks in Belwood

The GRCA has named the two osprey chicks nesting in the Belwood Conservation Area on July 3.

The winning names are Fergus and Welley. They were suggested by Ruth French through Facebook.

The GRCA held a contest on their Facebook page to help in the naming process. French has won a Grand River Country Trails book and Ashley Neveau won a Grand River Parks pass through a random draw.

The sex of the birds has not been determined, so the GRCA asked for gender neutral names.

The older chick, now named Fergus, hatched May 31 and Welley hatched June 4.

The GRCA had previously named the parents Woody and Bella in May.

The osprey chicks are just over a month old and are expected to start flying by the end of the month.
