On Nov. 15, the Fergus Grand Theatre opened the doors to the public, and did what it does best – put on a show and gala to celebrate and showcase the improvements to the theatre, thanks to an Ontario150 Community Capital Grant, administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“We are very grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting the Fergus Grand Theatre renovations,” said Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott.
“Our historic, heritage theatre looks spectacular, and performances will now be accessible to all.”
The Fergus Grand Theatre was slated for renovations in the 2017 budget, with the total estimated project cost at $460,000. The Ontario150 grant covered half of these estimated costs. The grant allowed the township to renovate the theatre’s entrance, lobby area, washrooms and other accessibility upgrades.
The theatre is used by a variety of community organizations for celebrations, fundraisers, rentals and the arts.
“This grant has made a significant impact on our theatre and downtown Fergus,” said Mayor Kelly Linton.
“It has provided the opportunity for the theatre to become completely accessible to patrons so that we can fully support the arts, culture and heritage scene while enriching the lives of our residents. I am looking forward to experiencing even more arts and culture for years to come in this beautiful heritage building.”
The presenting season of the theatre kicked off with The Great Canadian Songbook, a celebration of Canada’s musical history from coast to coast to coast.
