For the past few months, the Fergus Grand Theatre has been undergoing extensive renovations to create an updated, accessible theatre for the community to enjoy for years to come.
With the renovations nearing completion, staff would like to thank patrons, volunteers, clients and businesses partners for their support and patience. For the rest of the month, the theatre will open daily from 10am to 8pm, for those who would like to purchase tickets or stop in and see its new look.
The completely new lobby is modeled after the original theatre built in 1928.
“It has been quite the summer,” said Eric Goudie, theatre coordinator. “The renovations were a lot of work, but now that they are complete, our 89 year old building looks fantastic and is now accessible to the community.”
In January, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Government of Canada released the Ontario150 Community Capital Program grant list – the Fergus Grand Theatre was listed to receive accessibility enhancements and renovations.
The theatre was slated for renovations in the 2017 budget, and the grant covers half of the estimated costs, improving accessibility to the theatre’s entrance, lobby and washrooms.

The first show in this series is The Great Canadian Songbook, on Nov. 15. The show marks the theatre’s official grand reopening and tickets are already selling well for this event, officials say.
The theatre is also actively seeking new volunteers to work as ushers, box office staff and house managers for upcoming shows.
For students looking for volunteer hours, a professional looking to build skills or an active senior looking for ways to get involved in the community, the Fergus Grand Theatre is a good option.
“Training is provided, and your reward for volunteering is that you get to see the show for free,” officials say.
“Take the time over the next few weeks to stop in, say hi, purchase your season ticket package and inquire about volunteer opportunities, supporting arts and culture in our amazing community.
“Visitors and patrons will be amazed by the new look and what the Fergus Grand Theatre has to offer.”
