Grand Taste has served up another successful event, raising $22,000 for Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
Centre Wellington Centennial Rotary president elect Lisa MacDonald said she believed the April event was better than last year.
This year’s president is David Golem. Noreen Winter and Denise Pukarowski are the Grand Taste committee.
MacDonald added the amount raised was more than in 2017. She added the event included 16 vendors.
One the highlights was a Rotary Lager produced by Wellington Brewery. The blonde lager was created in partnership with the Rotary Club of Guelph and Rotary Club of Peterborough. MacDonald stated the lager was approved by Rotary International.
MacDonald said the raffle included a large desk donated by Staples and barbecue donated by Zehrs (Fergus).
New faces in crowd
“We felt like we saw a lot of new people this year – both from the local area and Guelph – which was nice to see. ScotiaBank provided staff to handle all the cash transactions,” MacDonald said.
“People really like the venue at the Lighthouse Restaurant (at the Grand River Raceway) because there are more places to sit.”
This marked the second year at the Lighthouse, she said. Previously the event was held in the Captain’s Quarters “… but we grew.”
She noted planning is already underway for next year’s event. “We are a smaller Rotary group, but we are definitely mighty. It’s a large event for a small group, but we are such a great team … we’re looking forward to next year.”
