While Elora may be concerned with the current state of the Drimmie Dam, councillor Kirk McElwain’s thoughts were with impact of a lost dam in Fergus.
At the May 6 meeting, the councillor commented on the loss of the Beatty Dam in Fergus and the impact it is now having on the Grand River.
“In Fergus a number of rocks have washed downstream and created a huge breaker across the river.”
McElwain asked if it should be considered an issue for the Grand River Conservation Authority or the township.
Centre Wellington CAO Andy Goldie told council the GRCA has already been contacted to take a look at it.
Goldie said the bigger issue may be the potential of ice jams next winter. He said the GRCA is looking into the matter.
Goldie added there is a portion of the breaker which has already opened up because of recent higher water levels.
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj added there was excellent communication with the GRCA during the recent flood event.
“But we are still cleaning up from that,” she said.
