The Grand River Mustangs girls atom B team won the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association title this year with a series of wins over its competition.
The Mustangs beat St. Mary’s Rock 2-1 in overtime to claim the title, with Susan Noble connecting for the winning goal.
In the semi-finals, the Mustangs beat the North Durham Blades 2-0.
In the quarter finals, the Mustangs again faced a tough test and prevailed, beating the Oakville Hornets 2-1, again in overtime. This time, it was Megan thring who connected to make the difference.
The Mustangs also knocked off the Woolwich Wild 2-1 and the Leaside Widcats 4-1 on the way to the title.
The scoring was spread through much of the Mustangs lineup. Thring scored four and hand an assist, Noble had five goals and two assists to lead all scorers., Taylor Collins scored twice and set up three more, Layne Beaver was two plus two, and Fiona Costella and Emma Nankivell scored once and assisted on one other.
Other assists went to Makyla Porter (two) Taylor Dietrich, Renae Eaton, Aneila Breen, and Erin Campbell.
Also contributing to the championship were Frances McKnight, Kaylee Punter, and, in goal were Rhiana Byrd and Faith Mitchell.
