The Good Brothers are returning to the Rockmosa Community Centre for a dinner and dance on May 12 for a benefit concert supporting Rockwood’s local team participating in Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer.
The fundraiser takes thousands of men and women through the streets of Toronto to raise funds for cancer research and care at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Each year a team from Rockwood participates and the Good Brother’s concert is a staple fundraiser to contribute to each walker’s $1,500 entrance fee, said organizer Doris Ens at the March 19 Guelph-Eramosa council meeting.
Tickets to the benefit dinner and dance cost $45 for a single ticket or $80 for two.
Ens said they also plan to approach the more than 70 businesses in the community asking for a donation.
“If they’d like to donate product we put it in baskets, put it by the front door,” Ens said. “When people enter the building and pay their $45 a piece, we tear off the end of their ticket and we drop it in the bin and every prize is given back to them …
“Nothing is auctioned off. Nothing is sold. All those gifts are given free to the people who choose to attend the Good Brothers Dinner and Dance.”
She said that no businesses has ever turned her down.
Guelph-Eramosa Township chose to support the benefit and will not be charging the group rent for the evening benefit.
“Speaking on behalf of council I’ll say it’s a pleasure to help support this event,” Mayor Chris White said. “It’s been going on for a number of years. It really is a community event. Sold out.
“You raise a lot of good money for an excellent cause and it really shows grass roots working together.”
The event takes place on May 12 with dinner at 6pm and the dance beginning at 9pm. For tickets call 519-856-9419 or 519-835-5450.
