Golf tournament in support of Elora House fast approaching

ELORA – Luisa Krause knows that people often wait to sign up for charity golf tournaments to see what weather or other events might come along.

But the date for the golf tournament in support of Elora House is fast approaching and Krause, executive director, will soon need to get firm numbers to the printers and caterer, she said.

“We’re about half-way to where we want to be with 40 golfers,” Krause said in a phone interview.

“I’d love to see 80 golfers. I’d love to raise $50,000 with this event.”

The tournament is set for Sept. 20 at Arris Valley Golf Course.

The $185 price tag includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, and a steak or chicken dinner and silent auction.

Tickets for just the dinner and silent auction are also available for $60.

The day begins at noon with a barbecued lunch at the course.

Tee off time is 1pm followed bydinner at 6pm and the silent auction.

Although it’s a fun day for participants and Krause looks forward to the day, the importance of the fundraiser isn’t far from her mind.

“The money goes to the girls’ care,” she said. “Everything we do is for the girls.”

Elora House is a residential facility for women fleeing human trafficking.

Clients can stay for up to a year as they get back on their feet and learn to live independently and overcome the trauma.

Elora House opened in 2020 and has been steadily growing. It now houses four clients who are fed, housed, clothed and receive therapy, as well as sessions on things like cooking, managing finances and social skills.

Elora House also offers after-care support to those who have graduated from the program, and it doesn’t receive any government funding.

“We’re very grateful for the people who have stepped up to help us,” Krause said. “We are very blessed, for sure.” For more information or to register, visit elorahouse.com.
