FERGUS – Grace Christian Fellowship is holding another Polar Bear 5k run/walk to raise funds for its youth program.
The run takes place on Jan. 25 but registration is open now and spaces are limited.
This year the run takes participants through Fergus.
Things get underway at 10am at 747 St Andrew St. W. in Fergus.
That’s the strip mall at the corner of St. Andrew Street and Beatty Line.
The run follows trails around Groves Memorial Community Hospital and the Wellington County Museum and Archives, crosses Wellington Road 18 and follows the trail along the river to return almost where it began.
Those who would rather not run are invited to walk the route instead.
Registration is $38 for those who register before Jan. 1.
After that it will cost $46 to participate.
“The Polar Bear Run promises more than just a physical challenge; it offers an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for fitness and philanthropy,” states material on the registration page.
“Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a leisurely walker, this event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities.”
All proceeds will go towards Grace Christian Fellowship’s Mission Immersion Program, a youth development initiative dedicated to nurturing local youth with an enriched sense of purpose and a passion for global engagement.
Last year’s run raised about $2,000 and helped youth in the program travel to Panama in 2024 to collaborate with the Ngäbe people, an Indigenous tribe residing in the mountainous regions of western Panama and Costa Rica.
“The continuing vision of the Mission Immersion Program is to empower local youth to experience the value of other cultures while getting to share God’s love in practical ways with people in need, all over the world,” reads a statement on the Fellowship’s website.
