The Third Annual Whole Hog BBQ will be held on Sept. 11 at the Food School Farm next to the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus.
Organizers have eight chefs lined up to showcase their whole hog barbecue talents using heritage breed, locally raised pork.
Meet with the chefs, savour the flavours of local craft beer, listen to live music, mingle with friends, and enjoy the family ambience at this very popular annual event.
“It’s amazing to see, and taste, the different styles each chef uses to prepare their whole hog,” said Jackie Fraser, event volunteer and participant.
“The music, smells, and beautiful grounds create a terrific afternoon out with friends and family.”
Explore the grounds where local youth are learning about sustainable agriculture or visit the historic farmhouse that now acts as an education centre for innovative programming that supports and promotes learning opportunities regarding sustainable food communities.
Organizers are pleased to announce that Scotiabank will once again be the presenting sponsor.
Early bird tickets are only $30. After Sept. 1 the ticket price is $40. Children under 12 with an adult are free. Tickets can be purchased online at wellingtoncsa.com. They will also be available at Fraberts Fresh Food and Scotiabank in Fergus, as well as Sante and the Elora Bread Trading Company.
“Our first two barbecues were smashing successes,” said Chris Jess, the founder of the Whole Hog BBQ.
“This event is the premiere fundraiser for the Wellington Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (WCSA). It is our opportunity to not only provide an afternoon of entertainment and great food, but to share what we do.”
There is free parking at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex. Visitors are welcome to bring their own lawnchair to this outdoor event.
Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information visit https://wellingtoncsa.com/ or the organization’s Facebook page.
