Girl from God”™s Country coming to Elora

The Elora Women’s Film Society is  presenting Girl from God’s Country on April 19 at 7pm at the Elora Centre for the Arts.  

Karen Day’s documentary tells of a Canadian adventuress and filmmaker, Nell Shipman, who pioneered in the silent era.

Mary Pickford, “America’s Sweetheart,” a Canadian and a film pioneer,  co-founded United Artists studio with Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith.  

Shipman worked outside the studio system writing, producing, acting and doing her own stunts.  

Her story has been recovered and now is being retold including contemporary women in film who comment on what is going on now in the industry.

Doors open at 6:30pm and admission is by donation.
