Get the real dirt this weekend at local plant sales throughout Wellington County

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, local residents are getting ready for spring and local organizations and horticultural societies have the answer for budding gardeners.

Spring plant sales across the county represent the major fundraiser for many of these groups. Plus, the wide variety of reasonably-priced plants sold are suitable for the local area. Residents can also get the best tips and planting information from the experts.

The following is just a small selection of local events set for May 11:

– Crime Stoppers 4th Annual Mulch Sale fundraiser at the Sportsplex in Fergus from 8am to 1pm;

– Guelph Township Horticultural Society Plant Sale at Marden Community Centre/Library parking lot, 7368 Wellington Rd. 30, 7am to 12pm;

– Arthur Horticultural Plant Sale (new location: MacPherson Park; Highway 6 and Francis Street – watch for signs), starting at 8am;

– Guelph and Wellington County Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale from 9am to noon at the Arboretum, grounds in Guelph;

– Maryborough Horti-cultural Society Plant and Bake Sale at 8am in front of Gourlay’s in Moorefield.

– Fergus Horticultural Society Plant Sale at Stone House next to Fergus Sportsplex  8 to 11am (good choice, supports local projects);

– Garage, Plant and Bake Sale at the Ballinafad United Church, 14369 Trafalgar Road (near Halton Sideroad 32), including breakfast and barbecue lunch; and

– Elora and Salem Horticultural Society Annual Plant Sale from 8 to 11am at the old Salem Schoolhouse parking lot located at the lights in Salem.
