Ready to own a piece of Puslinch Lake?
Puslinch Lake soil – screened, rock-free, and rich in organic nutrients – is on sale on May 13.
Bring your truck, trailer or container and a shovel (for smaller quantities) to McCormick’s Point (from Townline Road turn east on Concession 1). Sales will support the lake’s restoration fund.
The Puslinch Lake Conservation Association (PLCA), a non-profit organization, was founded in 1997 by a small group of concerned residents who wanted to restore the lake to its former natural, healthy condition.
In 2000 the first trial using a dredger was tested and was used with minimal success until 2009.
In the years 2001 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2012, permits were not issued for the dredging operation.
In 2013 a new dredging concept was introduced. The basic barge platform is 40’ by 60’. It was outfitted with a hopper/container measuring 18’ by 36’ by 5’, and has the capacity to hold 175 tons of material.
In 2014 and 2015 dredging continued from July until the end of the season.
In 2016 major repairs on the equipment stalled dredging until the end of August. A trench was excavated between Big Island and Harvey’s Island insuring passage to the eastern location for dredging in 2017.
In 2017 the PLCA is awaiting new permits from the Grand River Conservation Area and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to continue dredging.
The storage pit, located at McCormick’s Point, now has lake sediment from the last five years, which amounts to hundreds of tons of nutrient-rich lake soil. Bring your own shovel, containers and transport is advised. A few dump trailers will be available for those who don’t have the needed equipment, and require delivery up to 10km away. A delivery fee will be charged. Call 519-651-1488 in advance for delivery. One cubic yard of material will cost $20. A regular sized recycle box will be $5. Cash sales only
