Centre Wellington Minor Lacrosse (CWMLA) will play host to the annual Scott Gerrie Memorial Lacrosse Tournament from June 27 to 29.
Thirty-two teams from across Ontario will come to the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex for a weekend full of fun and competitive lacrosse.
The tournament will include Tyke, Novice, Peewee, and Bantam divisions.
CWLA players and executive members will be on hand to organize the largest fundraiser for local minor lacrosse, which brings hundreds of visitors to Centre Wellington to experience what it has to offer.
CWMLA will also be organizing a barbecue and activities with the proceeds going back to the organization.
The Scott Gerrie Lacrosse Tournament has been a staple in the community for over 10 years.
The tournament was renamed in 2002 to recognize Gerrie, a local athlete and lacrosse player who had devoted countless hours to the sport.
Gerrie played minor lacrosse for the Fergus Minor Lacrosse program and then went on to be a coach within the organization.
Also a member of the Fergus Thistles Sr. A lacrosse team, Gerrie lost a battle with an illness at the young age of 30.
“His commitment to minor lacrosse and his community is why the tournament continues to draw the attention of minor lacrosse organizations year after year and is known as one of the best local tournaments in Centre Wellington,” tournament officials state.
“So, if you are out on the weekend please visit the Sportsplex for something to eat and take in some local lacrosse players striving to get their hands on the Scott Gerrie Tournament Championship trophy.”
The tournament runs all day on June 27, 28 and 29.
