Garden and wildflower photography workshop

Peonies and irises make beautiful models for photographers and will soon be in bloom.

In order to capture them before they’re gone, the Arboretum at the University of Guelph is offering a Garden and Wildflower photography workshop this spring.

The program will be led by photographer Sylvia Galbraith on May 10 from 9am to 12pm, and by the end of it participants will know how to take inspired flower photos.

The course will discuss lighting, composition, colour and tricks for close-up images. Participants will also be introduced to different types of equipment and their uses in garden photography. Black and white flower photography will be explored, along with abstract shapes and textures, and how different camera settings can be used for creative effects.

The second half of the workshop will be outside, where participants will test their new skills in the woods and gardens of the Arboretum.  After completing this course participants will be able to enjoy their garden all year.

Those attending should bring their camera and dress for the weather. Film, digital, SLR or point & shoot cameras are all fine. A tripod is recommended, but not required.

The workshop costs $55 plus tax. Register before May 2 at www.uoguelph.ca/arboretum.
