ELORA – Centre Wellington firefighters were called to a garage fire on Mary Street here at about 10:45am on March 9.
Deputy fire chief Jonathan Karn said units from Fergus and Elora responded and about 30 firefighters were on scene.
“There was heavy smoke coming from the attached garage when we arrived,” Karn said. “The first crews entered the garage and started putting the fire out. They stopped the fire from getting into the home.”
Karn said it was the homeowners who called in the fire and no one was in the house when crews arrived.
He added the fire is not suspicious and has been deemed accidental, but he could not immediately pinpoint a cause. Karn said between the contents and structure, damage is estimated at $80,000 to $100,000.
Fire crews finished up around 1:30pm and the homeowners were allowed to return to their home.
