The Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance (HFFA), is hosting a public event on Nov. 25 to celebrate advances in the development of local food systems in the Headwaters region and announce plans for the future.
The event will pair local treats with updates on the activities of the Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance’s hub group, the Education, Access and Literacy sub-committee and affiliated Culinary Tourism Committee (a sub-committee of the Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association) and an opportunity to provide input on the future direction of HFFA.
There will be an informal networking session giving food enthusiasts a chance to eat and share information on initiatives in the region and their personal reasons. The formal program will commence at 5pm with presentations outlining the success of local food in the region including the culinary tourism events; Taste of Maple and Taste of the Harvest as well as the launch of the Education, Access and Literacy’s Farm to School Program.
Hub member Theresa Sauren will present the findings of a report commissioned by HFFA and funded by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to determine the challenges of growing a local food system in the region.
The report makes 28 recommendations spanning all aspects of a food system and priorities for 2015 are based on these recommendations.
HFFA chair, Jane Aultman stated, “I’m excited to bring people together again a year after the second annual Headwaters food summit to discuss our progress over the past year and help us shape our future activities.”
Input from attendees will be used to inform future activities of HFFA.
HCIA project manager Shirley Boxem says, “Gathering input from stakeholders helps groups like HFFA put initiatives in place that meet community need and have support from the community which is critical to the success of these programs.”
