The Centre Wellington Fusion Minor Pee Wee ‘AA’ team is Tri-County Champion after winning a series against its rivals, the Oakville Rangers.
Official say the teams were evenly matched and battled hard every game.
The series opened at the Fergus arena and the Fusion were ready to play. The boys came out flying with great plays happening at both ends of the ice. At the end of the second it was tied 2-2. The Fusion scored four in the third to win 6-3. Tristan Cousineau was outstanding between the pipes.
Game two took the boys to Oakville. The Rangers were out for revenge and defeated the Fusion 2-1. Game three was a 2-0 win for the Fusion.
Game four was CW’s chance to bring home the championship. It was a fast-paced, exciting contest that was tied 1-1 and it looked like overtime was in the works. With 36 seconds left in the third, the Fusion found the back of the net, winning the game 2-1.
Christian Linton was unbelievable in net for the Fusion through the last three games.
The Minor Pee Wees become the first Fusion ‘AA’ team to win a Tri-County Championship. The team was also Vic Teale Tournament champion and Nations Cup champion.
Points in the series (goals, assists) went to: Jakson Kirk (2,3), Caleb Cribbin (1,3), Caleb Willmets (1,2), Zachary Burt (1,2), Max Hattle (3,0), Zac Tofflemire (2,1) and Troy Hall, Jack McDonald, Zac Hatch, Jarrett Anderson and Trent Collins, one assist each.
