There’s a full complement of Celtic Music for Tartan Day 2010 will be April 11, from 1 to 4pm.
Five pubs and restaurants have joined forces to celebrate Tartan Day in partnership with the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games.
“We are excited about the lineup of great musicians that will participate in the third annual Tartan day here in Fergus,” said Rebecca MacEachern, owner and operator of the Goofie Newfie.
“All entertainment will perform in each establishment from 1pm to 4pm, and meandering pipers will drop by each venue as well.”
Bob McLean, Celtic guitarist will perform at the Breadalbane Inn, members of Inverness, a rollicking Celtic band, will be at the other end of town at the Brewhouse. Celtic Powerhouse, a three-piece Celtic band with an east coast and country flavor, will take the stage at the Stone Creek Tap and Grill.
Well known Scottish singer and songwriter David Leask will entertain at the Goose and Gridiron, and expect a fusion of Celtic funk and blue grass at the Goofie Newfie.
Adding to the day will be 11-year-old Liam McGlashon, a fiddler from Hamilton. McGlashon will drop by each venue for a tune or two in his Fergus debut.
McGlashon, like many of the musicians, are part of the lineup for the festival this year, said Katie Sinclair, music chairman of the Fergus Scottish Festival.
“Tartan Day is a great way to celebrate the day, our ancestry as well as give a preview and promote some of the great talent we have on hand in August,” she said.
Tartan Day is a week long celebration in Scotland and recognized in North America as well. Scots and Scottish descendants join together to celebrate their heritage by wearing their clan’s tartan, share in Scottish fare, songs and stories from their homeland.
