Friday night movies under the stars at Shades Mills conservation area

People can watch movies under the stars starting at dusk every Friday night until Labour Day weekend at Shade’s Mills Conservation Area on Avenue Road here.

The movies are free for Grand River Conservation Authority season pass holders and day pass holders. Or, up to six people in a vehicle can gain admission for a special flat fee of $10 on Friday nights, starting at 8pm.

“Signs near the park went up announcing the movies under the stars recently and the park has received lots of calls and emails, so it looks like people like the idea,” said park superintendent Brian Hunt. He was looking for a way to improve programming and offer an activity for local families.

The first Friday night movie was June 22 and the last is Sept. 7. The food concession will be open, offering snacks and drinks. Visitors should bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the big screen.

The movies are all rated parental guidance (PG) or general admission (G) and are suitable for families. Specific movies for each Friday are listed in the Newsroom on the GRCA website at www.grandriver.ca/Newsroom/News.cfm.

Any cancellations due to poor weather or schedule changes will be posted Friday afternoons in the Newsroom on www.facebook.com/grandriverconservation or mentioned on twitter @grandriverca.
