Freemasonry exhibit official opening and guest presentation

The Wellington County Museum and Archives will be marking the official opening of the travelling exhibit Freemasonry: A History Hidden in Plain Sight.

On loan from the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, the exhibit aims to promote the knowledge, appreciation and understanding of Masonic history and Freemasonry’s influence upon our society today.

On Feb. 22 at 1:30pm opening remarks will come from Mapleton’s John Green, the Deputy Grand Master (Ontario),  and a lecture by Freemason Michael MacDonald entitled Freemasonry in Ontario: Then and Now will be offered. Refreshments will follow. Admission is by donation and all are welcome to attend.

Augmenting the travelling exhibit is a reconstruction of a 19th century Masonic Lodge meeting.  Visitors will discover the symbols and traditions of this “secret society” are indeed all around, museum officials state. The exhibit opened to the public on Jan. 24 and will remain at the museum until April 26.

The museum is located on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora. Weekend hours are from 1 to 5pm.
