The Eden Mills Going Carbon Neutral project announces a free two-hour public workshop on Sept.. 27 called Home Energy Conservation.
By the end of September people begin to think about preparing homes for winter. This workshop is organized by Charles Simon of the Eden Mills Going Carbon Neutral project.
“Improving your home’s energy efficiency is one of the best investments you can make … home insulation is better than just about any other low-risk, long-term investment, ” according to Natural Resources Canada.
The workshop will include:
– ways to cut carbon emissions while cutting costs;
– review what last year’s household survey said about the Eden Mills carbon footprint;
– what a couple of star conservation neighbours have achieved;
– what measures make the most sense;
– where to start, how to set priorities;
– how to develop a long-term plan;
– ask about particular concerns; and
– find out what government grants are available.
Some measures cost nothing.
Some cost a moderate amount. People might consider other, bigger ticket items only when their old ones are crying out to be replaced. There is always something people can do to lower energy costs and your carbon dioxide emissions.

The workshop is the third in an ongoing series of information sessions designed to help citizens make informed decisions about making changes designed to reduce the production of green house gases, and to build a carbon neutral lifestyle.
The event runs Sept 27 from 10am to noon at the Eden Mills Community Hall. Admission is free.
