Free screening of Downie’s The Secret Path one of several local Culture Days events

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The theme of this year’s Culture Days is CommUNITY: A Melody of 25 years, which highlights the harmony, unity, and diversity in Centre Wellington, officials say.

It also marks the 25th anniversary of the amalgamation of Elora and Fergus  and surrounding townships into the Township of Centre Wellington.

The township and the Elora Fergus Arts Council invite everyone to participate in the celebration, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 13.

There will be a wide range of events, performances and activities that showcase the vibrant and entertaining nature of our community.

Notable among them:

– Elora Fergus Studio Tour and live artist demos (Sept 28, 29, Oct 5, 6);

– Kidstock Fergus on  Sept. 29 is a Woodstock-inspired festival of peace, love, music, and art for kids;

– Sensational Elora Monster Month events run throughout October;

Just Play will be performed at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Sept. 29;

– Historical Walking Tours of Fergus (Sept. 28) and Elora (Sept. 29).

What makes Culture Days even more special is that all 86 events (and counting) are free or “pay what you may,” to ensure everyone can participate, officials say.

There will also be a free screening of Gord Downie’s The Secret Path at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Sept. 30 from 7 to 9pm.

The event includes two amazing guest speakers:

– Leo Atlookan, from Eabametoong First Nation, is a wellness navigator/community support coordinator with Dalton Associates’ Indigenous Mental Wellness Division; and

– Dr. Robert Robson, professor emeritus at Lakehead University and a member of the Centre Wellington Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

Preregistration is required.
