PUSLINCH – Firefighters from Puslinch, Guelph/Eramosa, Guelph and Milton responded to a fire at 50 McLean Road in Puslinch on June 10 and returned the next day as fire persisted in the duct work.
Puslinch interim fire chief Brad Bigrigg said the report of a fire at Nexcycle, a business that recycles glass collected from municipal blue box programs, came in around 3pm and firefighters were on scene until 8pm.
“There were fires in the duct work and a hopper on the south side of the building,” Bigrigg said.
It was a dramatic scene and required a lot of manpower to fight, Bigrigg said.
He said he believes the fire started from a spark in the processing operation and is accidental.
“I have no reason to think it was suspicious,” he said.
Bigrigg said a couple of firefighters suffered “heat illness” but were not transported to hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
There was damage to the furnace in the building, Bigrigg said, and the company is getting an estimate on repairing or replacing that so he couldn’t give a complete damage estimate – but it would be considerable.
