Members of the Four Corners Quilters’ Guild celebrated its 20th anniversary with its fourth quilt show on May 11 and 12.
Over 700 visitors from the local community and beyond attended to view over 225 quilted items on display.
At its June 12 meeting, the guild presented Mount Forest’s Cancer Patient Services and the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation with a donation of $2,000 towards the work they do for the members of the community in need.
Guild founder Grace Copeland was also instrumental in the establishment of Cancer Patient Services, which the guild notes is an organization of “great importance” to the guild members and the community as a whole.
Quilters enjoy the creative process of working with fabric and thread and exploring the many artistic possibilities, but at the heart of this passion is the desire to provide comfort and warmth.
The guild also joined many other quilters across Canada to support the families of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy and sent a completed quilt and two additional quilt tops in the team colours to Saskatchewan after the show.
Also presented were the three Viewers’ Choice awards to Janet Moore (for Glacier Star), Ethel Boychuk (Underground Railroad sampler quilt) and June Carter (Hearts of Roses).
The guild thanked the many financial supporters of the show including the Township of Wellington North and its cultural roundtable committee, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 134 (Mount Forest), Mount Forest Lions Club, and the Township of Southgate.
The guild also thanked the show’s vendors, the ladies of the Woodland Springs Women’s Institute and Mount Forest Greenhouses for enriching the show for visitors and making this donation to the community possible.
A special thanks also went to a team of enthusiastic students and Dave Griffiths from Wellington Heights Secondary School who assembled the quilt display racks for the guild.
Guild meetings will start again in September. New members or visitors are always welcome to join the second Tuesday of each month (September to June) from 7:30 to 9:30pm at Mount Forest United Church.
