GUELPH – The Guelph Community Foundation recently awarded 17 local students with $25,800 in scholarships and bursaries.
Individual scholarship and bursary amounts vary between $200 and $5,000. The financial aid will assist Guelph and Wellington County students achieve their educational goals.
Recipients are determined by the foundation’s grant committee of volunteers, in partnership with the school administration.
Among the recipients were students from the Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) and the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB)
WCDSB recipients included: Dannielle Bergeron, Matthew Jansen, Megan Lowe and Amber King, Neil Redmond, Daian Deres, Cathy Le, Ruby Joseph, Danayt Hibtzghi, Mia Valeriote, Lauren Hoffman, Mathew Chicago and Sharlie Stahlbaum.
UGDSB recipients were: Andrew Dong, Abigail Liebregt, Natalie Tu and Enya Kelly.
“Many of these grants support students pursuing business, STEM related subjects, trades, athletics or those facing financial barriers,” a press release states.
“All this year’s recipients demonstrated curiosity, creativity, respect for others, their community and have shown tremendous potential.”
The scholarships and bursaries are funded by community members and anonymous donors, often in memory of a member from their family, and managed by the foundation.
“Our fundholders believe it’s important to remove financial barriers to success and reward outstanding students who choose post-secondary education,” the release read.
“They have taken the initiative to support youth through their philanthropic goals.”
