Interested in learning how to make sausages, gather wild edibles or ferment vegetables?
At the upcoming Taste Real Local Food Fest, visitors have the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with traditional food growing and preparation skills.
Bread baking, composting, butter making, fish butchery, culinary mushrooms and cider making are just some of the 10 exciting free food skills workshops offered by Minga Skill Building Hub.
On June 24, the public is invited to celebrate local food in Guelph and Wellington County at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre from 11am to 4pm.
The event features exhibitors, vendors, live music, kids activities, craft beer and cider, tours, food skill building workshops and demonstrations.
Patrons are encouraged to come out for a local food lunch, bring shopping baskets, picnic blankets and enjoy local products from the farmers’ market and exhibitor area. Children of all ages are welcome, and the event offers a number of family activities including: wagon rides, face painting, and a kids activity area.
Children are encouraged to try their hand at gardening and participate in a number of fun food workshops.
New this year is a Hillside Festival stage featuring performances by Chad Price, Missy Bauman, Ajay Mehmi, Greg Denton and the Probable Cause Trio and Madison Galloway
Patrons 19 and older will be able to enjoy local craft beer from Wellington Brewery, Royal City Brewing, Elora Brewing Company and Heartwood Farm Cidery.
Prepared food vendors will also offer non-alcoholic drinks to pair with the fresh bites they are serving and it is suggested that patrons bring a water bottle to refill onsite, and their Hillside Festival cups for alcoholic beverages.
Visitors from Guelph are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle bus or bike. Shuttles will be leaving from downtown Guelph (on Quebec Street beside the BMO – Bank of Montreal) and at a new south end stop at St. Paul Catholic School on Clairfields Drive East.
