Food festival returns to Ignatius

How do you make sauerkraut, sausages or find edibles in your backyard?

At the upcoming Local Food Fest, visitors have the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with traditional food preparation skills. Fermenting, foraging, butchery and butter making are just some of the exciting workshops people can engage in and learn about growing and preparing food.

On June 26, everyone is invited to celebrate local food in Guelph and Wellington County on the grounds of Ignatius Jesuit Centre from 11am to 5pm.

The Local Food Fest features 50 exhibitors, vendors, live -music, kids activities, craft beer, tours, food skill building workshops and demonstrations. Join us for a local food lunch, bring your shopping baskets, picnic blankets and enjoy local products from the farmers’ market and exhibitor area.

In addition to the skill building workshops, the event offers a number of family activities, including wagon rides, face painting, and a kids activity area. Children are encouraged to try their hand at preparing an easy summer dish at the Kids Culinary workshop presented by Garnishes Personal Chef Services. Guelph’s award-winning band ‘The Funky Mamas’ will be performing as part of an all local music line-up.

What is a picnic without local brews? Patrons 19 and older will be able to enjoy local craft beer from Wellington

Brewery, Royal City Brewing and Elora Brewing Company. Prepared food vendors will also offer non-alcoholic drinks to pair with the fresh bites they’re serving and it’s suggested that patrons bring a water bottle to refill onsite with City of Guelph’s Water Wagon.

Visitors from Guelph are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle bus or bike. The Red Car Service shuttle will be leaving from downtown Guelph (on Quebec St. beside BMO) and the Shelldale Centre.

The event is the recipient of the Award of Excellence for ‘Event of the Year’ presented by Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance (OCTA) and is thankful for the continued support of the Neighbourhood Group of Companies:

Borealis, Miijidaa and The Woolwich Arrow, and all sponsors and partners contributing to the event.
