The food drive hosted by the staff of Hillsburgh Foodland and the Hillsburgh Firefighters raised over $400 in donations and 300 pounds of food for the East Wellington Community Services Food Bank Program.
EWCS manager of community and volunteer services Erika Westcott was pleased with the results and the support received from the community.
“It was a perfect day with lots of sunshine and many people from the local community came out to get a tour of the fire truck, enjoy the outdoor BBQ and, most importantly, bring their donations for the food bank,” said Westcott.
“People could also purchase a bag already made up with items needed by the food bank or shop at the store and find the items most needed that were flagged with special signage.”
Westcott added, “We couldn’t help those in our community who depend on this program without the amazing support of so many.
“Thank you so much to Hillsburgh Foodland, the Hillsburgh firefighters and everyone who contributed to the success of this event for our food bank – it is such a critical time for the food bank with the summer months ahead.”
