For the seventh straight year, area cyclists will ride local roads and trails to raise funds for the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
May 28 is this year’s date for the annual Food Cycle Ride, which starts at Elora Public School and allows riders to chose from four trail and road courses ranging from 20 to 75km in length.
In its first six years, The Food Cycle Ride has raised $66,000 for the food bank.
Again this year, riders and volunteers will be treated to a post-event lunch courtesy of Getaway Restaurant at the OLG Slots Grand River, accompanied by live music by local musicians.
The annual fundraiser, which is supported by approximately 70 volunteers, attracts as many as 175 riders who participate individually, in family groups or as teams of friends or colleagues.
BMO Nesbitt Burns is the principal sponsor of the ride, matching the first $6,000 in donations.
Several area businesses and community service clubs and organizations also donate cash and in-kind sponsorships.
The cyclists raise funds in the form of pledges or entry fees. In 2016 the event netted $15,000.
