The TWISTED Women Riders held their first charity poker ride to benefit Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis on July 8.
The run began and ended at the Eden Mills Community Centre. Motorcycles and vehicles took part in a scenic route through Guelph and Wellington. Upon returning, participants enjoyed prizes, food and entertainment.
TWISTED, which stands for Tenacious Women Inspiring Strength Through Empowerment and Diversity, is an independent grassroots organization comprised of women who love riding motorcycles.
“Our riding family actively works with law enforcement to promote a positive image in the motorcycle culture,” the group states in a press release.
“We are a group that values our local communities and consistently participates in community and fundraising events, while at the same time mentoring, empowering and celebrating our organization’s diversity.”
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis provides services to women and children suffering domestic and sexual violence. Each year, through it supports more than 1,500 women and 100 children, responds to over 3,000 calls on its 24-hour crisis line, provides counselling and public education to promote awareness of issues of women abuse and sexual violence.
