Wellington North Township council is taking a small step to address riverbank erosion north of County Road 109.
In a recent report, Works Superintendent Gary Williamson said Sideroad 10 West, at Concession 4 in old Arthur township, has the potential to be eroded away in the next few years if the township does not start looking at options to address the issue.
The river makes a bend just north of County Road 109 and continues to erode the sandy bank causing trees to fall into the river.
“And each year, the river moves closer to the road allowance.”
Williamson said he has contacted the Grand River Conservation Authority, which, while willing to be involved, maintains that it is up to the municipality to address the issue. A meeting with engineers is being arranged for this fall to look at options.
“Whether it is next year, or the year after, we need to start planning,” Williamson said.
