WELLINGTON NORTH – Council here has awarded a contract for replacement of a bridge structure on the First Line to Reeves Construction Limited, at a contract cost of $108,057.
A report from operations manager Matt Aston presented at the June 1 council meeting noted the structure was identified in a 2019 report as in need for replacement.
“Township staff have recently rebuilt First Line from Wellington County Road 109 to Sideroad 25 and the replacement of this structure will ensure this road continues to provide expected service levels well into the future,” the report states.
Council waived the requirement for a competitive process at Aston’s recommendation.
The report explains the decision to sole source award the project is inconsistent with the township’s procurement policy. However the quote provided by Reeves is under the project budget of $197,000 and the township is familiar with the local contractor’s workmanship.
