The Grade 4/5 class at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwood won a class pizza party with the Rockwood Fire department.
The department has a valued and historic relationship with the community’s schools and youth.
Fostering early relationships between youth and emergency services personnel is crucial, fire officials state.
The department’s school programming involves classroom delivery of fire public safety information, including but not limited to: calling 911, get out and stay out, not re-entering into a fire, knowing the home address, fire hazards in the home, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms etc.
As with past years, the department has just completed in-class programming (generally Grade 4’s) with the objective of having each student become their home’s “fire safety expert.”
The challenge for students this year was to complete assigned homework, including a home escape plan and questionnaire.
At the end of the session, each school’s classroom was tasked with completing the homework and the classroom with the most completed assignments was eligible to win a pizza party.
Not just any pizza party, a pizza party joined by community firefighters.
The Grade 4/5 class’s pizza party and station tour is scheduled for March 26 at 1pm.
