The township fire service has sold off two of its aging tanker trucks after it took possession of two new trucks recently.
Fire Chief Jeff Dahms told council at its meeting on Oct. 21 that he had received a pending offer of $16,000 for the two vehicles – a 1989 Ford and 1988 International.
Council left the chief in charge of selling the vehicles after they were declared surplus equipment when the $220,000 trucks were taken into service.
“It is my suggestion the offer is reasonable and the township accept, contingent on the removal of the town’s names on the sides of the trucks,” Dahms said in a report to council.
“All radios and equipment will be removed, including slide-out trays in both trucks, leaving one port-a-tank on each truck and lights and sirens.”
The sirens, said Dahms, will remain because it’s expected the trucks will be refurbished and put back into service.
