A Christmas Day fire at a aggregate facility here has been ruled accidental.
Firefighters from Clifford, Harriston and Mount Forest stations were called to a fire at The Murray Group pit on the 12th Line of Minto at around 11am on Dec. 25. Fire fighters from Palmerston and Arthur were later called in to assist. At around 2:30pm, Minto Fire reported via twitter that crews had cleared the scene and the structure had been saved.
Minto Fire Chief Chris Harrow later stated in an email the fire was discovered by a neighbour who was also an employee of the plant.
“We had two stations from Minto Fire (Harriston, Clifford) and Wellington North – Mount Forest station responded originally to first call. Upon arrival, the request went out for Palmerston station and Arthur station for water tankers,” Harrow explained.
“The crews did a great job knocking down the bulk of the fire quickly … which saved the structure and much of the equipment. The fire was … accidental and no damage estimate has been determined at this time.”
