Film on a Plate this weekend at Elora greenspace

Sensational Elora’s Film on a Plate is expanding – into the Elora Greenspace.

On July 25, Centre Wellington councillors approved a special occasion permit allowing organizers to serve alcohol in accordance with the Liquor License Act at the July 30 event.

Sensational Elora – Festival of the Senses is a fundraising organization, in existence for eight years.

In that short time span, the group has raised over $90,000 to combat hunger in Centre Wellington with all profit each year being directed to the Centre Wellington Food Bank and The Centre Wellington District High School breakfast program.

Each year Sensational Elora runs a number of events throughout the community.

One event that has proven to be very popular and has contributed significantly is the outdoor Film on a Plate, scheduled the Saturday of the civic holiday weekend each year.

The event includes the closing of Mill St. W. for the evening, bringing in food vendors, providing music in the greenspace and ending with the film being shown in the greenspace, starting at dusk.

In the past, this licensed event was limited to the courtyard of The Gorge Cinema.

This year, organizers requested extending the license to include the seating area in the greenspace, which required council to declare the event “municipally significant.”

Council approved this event as one of municipal significance to be held at the greenspace at 25 West Mill St., Elora on July 30 so that Sensation Elora may apply for a special occasion permit

Councillor Kirk McElwain declared a conflict of interest prior to council’s discussion.
