Fergus Truck Show draws well

Warm weather and hot wheels added up to a great weekend at the 27th annual Fergus Truck Show, July 27-29.

“I think it was a great weekend. There seemed to be a lot of people walking around and the truckers seemed very happy with it,” said Ginny Fleming, vice president of the organizing committee.

While final attendance figures are not yet available, Fleming noted the stands were full for the truck pulls on Saturday night and the demolition derby on Sunday. While there were plenty of people on hand Friday night as well, Fleming wondered if the opening ceremonies for the Olympics kept some people away from the event.

“Overall, it was a very good show,” said Fleming.

The number of entries in the Show and Shine held steady, with 276 trucks, one more than last year, on display.

Prizes were awarded in 31 categories, including the Public Choice for the Best Truck of Show, which went to Laura McArthur of Mansfield.

McArthur displayed a four-wheel-drive International. She said the truck was originally a military vehicle and modified to run on “anything that burns,” including diesel fuel, biofuel, jet fuel, gasoline or coal oil.

The truck was in rough shape when McArthur acquired it. She had the vehicle completely rebuilt on its International 7400 chassis and painted black and gold.

“I really love this show,” said McArthur, a frequent attendee of the Fergus event. “I’ve always wanted to have a truck to bring here.”

McArthur’s vehicle also placed second in the Best Custom Pickup category.
