Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games to receive provincial funding

The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is receiving a grant of up to $46,125 from the Ontario government to help support this summer’s festival.

“I am pleased to inform you that your Celebrate Ontario 2015 application has been successful,” Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Michael Coteau wrote in a letter to organizers.

Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott, who attends the Highland Games every year, welcomed the announcement.

“This is great News for the Highland Games,” said Arnott.  “I want to thank the board of the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games for their efforts in securing this grant, and the ministry for its support for the Highland Games.”

Festival president David Radley added, “The Celebrate Ontario grant will ensure that on this, our 70th anniversary, we can continue to celebrate Canada’s rich Scottish heritage and offer our patrons an exciting program at this world class event.”

Established in 1946, the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is one of the largest highland games in Canada and brings thousands of people to our area each year.

“I also want to thank the many volunteers whose dedication and hard work make this event such a great success every year,” added Arnott.

The Celebrate Ontario 2015 program provides funding for Ontario events in order to enhance programs, activities, and services and support innovations that will lead to long-term improvements, sustainability, and the attraction of additional tourists.
