Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games runs Aug. 9-11

FERGUS – The volunteers are getting ready, the vendors preparing, musicians warming up, and competitors are practicing.

The countdown is officially on for the 79th Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games.

With a jam-packed schedule planned, officials say the festival team has curated an experience that all can enjoy, Scot or not.

Taking place at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus from Aug. 9 to 11, the event will host a variety of experiences.

Meet the stars from the TV show Outlander, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Duncan Lacroix. Experience the Tattoo’d in Tradition ceremony.

See the fireworks, share a dram with friends in the Whisky Village, feel the thrall of the massed bands, pet a Highland coo (cow) in the Heritage Village, discover your Scottish heritage at the Genealogy tent.

And witness the strength and skill of heavy events, Highland dance, and pipes and drums competitors, listen to the beating music in the Highland Pub, find your clan at Clans and Heritage.

There is no shortage of entertainment at the event, officials say.

The festival schedule is live now on the website.

“In true Fergus Scottish Festival fashion, we are once again delivering an amazing event with a little bit of everything,” stated executive director Elizabeth Bender in a press release.

“Whether you are a historian, a competition lover, if you like great music, great food, we have it all.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our 79th event! “

Gates open at 5pm on Aug. 9.
