Rob and Sandy Campbell, of the Mudmen, are frequent performers at the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, and a part of the winning team behind Canada’s Hockey Anthem Challenge.
The CBC launched a competition for hockey fans and music enthusiasts to compose a new Hockey Night in Canada theme song after it lost the rights to the music that was dubbed Canada’s second national anthem.
The CBC received over 15,000 entries from across Canada with one, most importantly, being from Colin Oberst, of Alberta. His tune, Canadian Gold, was unlike any others. Beginning with a low-pitched hum and a triumphant Scottish sound, it possessed something unique, something different, something Celtic, and some- thing Fergus.
"We are beyond thrilled for the Mudmen and their contribution to the Hockey Night in Canada theme song," said Fergus Scottish Festival volunteer, Deb Dalziel. "They are responsible for that wonderfully triumphant bagpipe melody that launches … the hockey tune as the Canadian players take the ice. The Campbell brothers are well-known visitors of Fergus, appearing regularly at local events and our Scottish Festival and Highland Games.”
She added, “It comes as no surprise that these Fergus favourites and their Scottish talent have gained national and legendary recognition through their Celtic tune."
The Mudmen will be performing at the 2009 Scottish Festival and Highland Games.
