FERGUS – The Fergus Medieval Faire has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers of the event, originally planned for July 25, announcement the news on Facebook on June 22.
“We waited as long as we could hoping for better news,” officials wrote.
“But, alas, we must announce the 2021 Fergus Medieval Faire is cancelled.
“Very disappointing news, but perk up, we may be able to salvage something for late fall 2021.”
Organizers also asked fairgoers to save July 24 as the date for the 2022 festival.
Fergus Medieval Faire coordinator Debb Greer said the event typically has large turnout, with almost 10,000 attendees in 2019.
Founded in 2018 by Greer, Nathalie MacNeil and Tala Jenkins, the fair “was a young event,” said Greer.
It is sponsored by the Fergus BIA, Elora Fergus Tourism, and “received support from the Grand River Agricultural Society”, Greer stated in an email.
Officials are hopeful they’ll be able to organize an event late this fall.
“We’re really keeping our fingers crossed,” said Greer.
The fall event wouldn’t be the exact same, Greer speculated, as it would have to accommodate COVID-19 protocols at the time, but it would be more of a “nod” to the summer event.
The Fergus Medieval Faire is always looking for more volunteers. Email getmedieval@fergusmedievalfaire.ca if interested.
