Fergus man charged after police officer head-butted by ‘intoxicated’ restaurant patron

FERGUS – A Fergus man has been charged after an OPP officer was head-butted by a “combative” and “intoxicated” patron outside a local restaurant.

On Jan. 18 at about 9:15pm Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a restaurant on St. Andrew Street East in Fergus.

Police say a man was “out of control” and yelling at staff at the eatery.

“Officers were arresting the suspect for public intoxication when [he] became combative and head-butted the officer,” police stated in a press release.

Police say they found “a large quantity of cannabis” on the suspect.

Mark Daniel Boys, 31, of Fergus, was charged with assaulting a peace officer, possession of over 30g of cannabis and being intoxicated in a public place.

He is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 18.
