FERGUS – The Fergus Lions Home and Leisure Show will return to the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex May 4 to 6.
“New this year will be food trucks in attendance and a bouncy castle for the children,” club officials stated in a March 24 announcement.
“[We are] looking forward to seeing everyone there.”
The show has been held every year since 1978, with the exception of 2020 and 2021.
It was one of the first local events cancelled at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago and was again cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The show had previously grown in size each year, with the last show in 2019 offering over 125 exhibitors and 170 booths to about 4,000 visitors, officials say.
In 2019 some of the exhibitors included bathroom renovations, roofing, real estate, health products, kitchen renovations, water toys, window and door replacement, water conditioning, kitchenware, community relations, electrical, landscaping, power equipment and indoor and outdoor furniture, to name a few.
Started as a fundraiser for the construction of the sportsplex in Fergus, today the Lions Club uses show proceeds to raise funds for community projects and designated charities.
Some of those charities include Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides; Diabetes Canada; Centre Wellington Food Bank; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Groves hospital; Canadian National Institute for the Blind; and Grand Abilities.
“Admission to the show has always been free,” club officials states.
“The public is encouraged to make a contribution to the local food bank.”
