FERGUS – The Fergus Horticultural Society is pleased to announce six residents have been selected as Grand Garden recipients in the first year of the Grand Gardens program.
“There were so many great gardens nominated this year. It took some time to narrow it down to six,” said Larry Broome of the selection committee.
Grand Garden signs are displayed in gardens around Fergus.
“We are so lucky to live in a community that cares and works hard to create such beautiful gardens,” said Broome. “It is great to be part of a program that recognizes them.”
The residents selected are: Lynn Bachinski, Steve and Sandra Beckett, Irini Karapanos, Lloyd Lougheed, Beth and Richard Mathew and Molly and Bob Myers.
The Fergus Horticultural Society congratulated them for their efforts in making their neighbourhood and the town “a beautiful place to live.”
“Our hopes are to encourage other people to do the same,” said the Fergus Horitcultural Society in a press release.
“Creating beautiful gardens does not necessarily take a lot of money and with the right knowledge, it does not necessarily mean a lot of work.”
The organization encourages anyone that wants to learn more to come to the group’s monthly meetings.
The horticulture meetings feature guest speakers that educate the group on gardening.
The next Fergus Horticultural Society meeting is Sept. 18 at 7:30pm at the Victoria Park Seniors Centre.
The topic for September’s meeting will be The Enchanting Garden with guest speaker Pat de Valence, a Toronto master gardener. Everyone is welcome to attend.
