Fergus dancers compete at highland games

Dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance in Fergus attended the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games highland dance competition on Aug. 13 and 14. 

Over the course of two days the dancers collectively took home 19 medals. 

The Saturday competition finished just before the rain started. There were eight young girls competing. 

In the beginners 7 years category Eila Gillies placed 4th in fling. 

In beginner 10 years Fiona Gillies took home a 4th in fling, while Elle Dumbreck took 6th in sword, and the two were back to back for Seann Truibhas with Elle taking 4th and Fiona 5th. 

In beginners 11 years Ella Murray took home a 5th in Seann Truibhas.

In beginners 12 and over Ashley Elliott took home a 5th in fling and sword, and a 3rd in Seann Truibhas. 

The girls were also very excited to meet the current world champion, getting pictures and autographs, team officials say.

The Sunday competition brought sunnier weather, and seven dancers. 

For the first ever Trophy Fling competition in beginners 11 and over Murray took home 2nd place. 

In beginners 7 years Zahra Dumbreck placed 6th in flora. 

In beginners 10 years the dancers were back-to-back in flora, Fiona taking 4th, Elle 5th, and Avaline Booth 6th, and again in lilt Fiona taking 4th and Elle 5th. 

In beginners 11 and over Murray took a 3rd in lilt, while Elliot took a 4th in lilt and reel.
